/THE YEAR IS 2489

Acid rain rots away exposed rebar in the half-developed megacity once known as Toronto. Humanity modifies itself at a frequency never seen before. A housing crisis not only endangers the market, but the displaced and unhoused. One dilapidated house, only referred to as The Commons, is the the center of our story. What was once meant to be a safe haven has turned against every occupant to have dwelled within.

You can't remember how you got here, and you are trapped inside. You must use a strange collection of digital memory cards holding the recorded memories of the past and present residents to manipulate time and navigate the house.

Play as Haze, our non-binary, mixed-race, cybernetic medium struggling with Complex PTSD and amnesia. Experiencing their past brings forth memories of kidnapping, forced imprisonment, inhumane experimentation, and mind-control. Haze must come to terms with their experiences as well as the violence they have perpetrated against their peers during their time in "The Classroom".

Explore a relationship between Salem, a trans woman and her disabled lesbian partner, Agatha. Through their story, you will witness what it means to eke out a living in a dilapidated future Toronto, a megacity that continually perpetrates economic oppression and violence against its citizens.

Become a zealous, neurodivergent bioengineer in the midst of a huge break through developing a memory-editing neuralware program. Discover what she is willing to sacrifice in the name of progress while sinking deeper into a cult that cares little for its member's humanity at the cost of its underground research program.

Features

  • Time Jumping. Use a cybernetic memory card system to navigate through time.
  • Cyber Possession. Allow the digital ghosts of the past to possess your body in order to descramble memories, solve puzzles, and see through their perspectives.
  • Communicate With The Dead. Use an interactive Ouija system to speak with ghosts and gather info that would otherwise be hidden.
  • Surgery. Perform surgical procedures to help stabilize injured victims.
  • Diverse Characters. Play as [HAZE], our non-binary, mixed-race protagonist; expplore the relationship between [SALEM], a trans woman, and her disabled lesbian partner, [AGATHA]; engage with neurodivergent NPCs.

About Rocket Adrift

Rocket Adrift Games is a Toronto-based indie studio made up of Sloane Smith, Lindsay Rollins and Titus McNally. They make narrative-driven games that include their previous games Raptor Boyfriend: A High School Romance, and Order A Pizza: A Visual Novel.

Our Mission as a developer is to tell personal narratives that highlight the perspectives of LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC experiences while also showcasing an outsider lens to Canadian culture.

We aim to emotionally enrich underrepresented players through gameplay and storytelling, and endear others to the struggles of our diverse characters with humor and unflinching honesty.

By 2025 the studio will be contributing to the conversation of diversifying perspectives in the industry through it's projects as well as provide fulfilling positions for BIPOC & LGBTQIA+ at our studio.

Our co-op's publishing node supports the production, marketing, launch, and post-launch activities of games created by our members, ensuring the studio's impact goals are recognized as importantly as their game's features.

Our not-for-profit model encourages a regenerative approach to community support that includes funding, project management, audience development, and platform support.
